Lucinda's Yoga Sutras Handouts

In January of 2003 I started studying Iyengar yoga with Jeanne Barkey. In addition to asana classes and practice, I attended a series of classes on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Several of the students in those classes soon started the "Twin Cities Yoga Sutra Group" to practice chanting the Yoga Sutras on a monthly basis. We used the Patanjala Yogasutra CDs with recitation by Pandit Sri. S. T. Nagaraj (available from the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco), and worked on four new Sutras each month, with additional work on those Sutras learned previously.

The handouts listed below were generated to assist us in our study of the Yoga Sutras. All of the material in the handouts comes from B.K.S. Iyengar's excellent book "Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali". Using the Appeal font to provide the diacritical marks, I rearranged and reformatted the transliterations, pronunciations, and translations onto handouts for ease of use during chanting practice. These handouts are in no way intended to substitute for studying Guruji's thorough presentation, interpretation, and consideration of the Sutras; rather, the handouts can supplement that study by assisting the student in learning and internalizing the wisdom of the Yoga Sutras.

Several different versions of the handouts are available. All the files are pdf format so the user will not need any special font to view and print the handouts. I have listed the date each file was last updated. Anyone noticing an error in the materials is asked to please contact me using my Contact Form. I will post revised versions of the files as they become available.
